Competition Rules | Application

The town of Bakersville and the Bakersville Improvement Group will sponsor a trout derby competition on Saturday, October 3rd on that portion of Cane Creek which flows through the town. The competition will be fly fishing, catch and release only.

Participants will compete as a member of a team and will fish on an assigned beat to be determined by a draw. Each team will pay an entry fee of $50. First prize will be $1000. The winning team will be determined by the total length of the five fish the teams chooses to enter into the completion. One tagged fish will be released on each beat. The team which catches one of those tagged trout will win $100.

Registration for teams begins at 7:30 am and the first teams will begin fishing at 8:00am on Saturday, October 3rd. The next teams will begin fishing at 9:00 am and continue to rotate at one-hour intervals until all registered teams have competed. The stream will be well stocked before the competition so there will be plenty of action for the anglers. Vendors will provide food and other things for family and others who wish to attend.

Complete contest rules and additional information are available at the Bakersville Town Hall, and at River’s Edge Outfitters on upper street in Spruce Pine.
